EARRINGS

Earrings make the perfect gift because they are always the right fit. The most basic jewelry wardrobe piece, she may leave the house without a bracelet, but she’s almost always wearing earrings.

Most earring styles go with anything, adding style to anything she wears. The wide variety of earring types, sizes, and prices available makes it easy to find the perfect pair for a gift. She’ll remember you every time she wears them.

 Studs

Because they’re small, stud earrings are easy to wear. They go as easily with a cocktail dress as they do with jeans.

 Hoops

Platinum, gold, or silver hoops give a feminine touch, and precious metals go with anything. For added sparkle, choose a pair with diamonds. Prices start at around $29 for silver hoops.

 Drops

Drop earrings are made to dangle below their setting. Swaying with movement, they can add an elegant touch. Pearl, diamond, and gemstone drop earrings are available in various settings.

Earrings As Gifts

Diamond studs are the perfect gift for an important occasion. If she is more fashionable and follows the trends, give her princess-cut diamond studs, but if she dresses in classic styles, give round diamond studs or cultured pearl studs.

Even if she has several pairs of earrings already, she’ll love to add a pair of beautiful hoop earrings to her rotation. Most women have a preference of the color of precious metals they wear, so look at her other jewelry to see what she prefers.

If studs and hoops are too predictable, silver earrings are available in a variety of fashionable styles. Other earring styles include colorful gemstone or lively dangling designs.

NECKLACES

The right necklace or pendant will add style to anything she wears. In addition to being a fashionable gift, giving her a necklace gives you the opportunity to perform the classically romantic gesture of putting it around her neck for the first time.

In general, a necklace is defined as any type of chain or length of precious metal or gems. They are also available in pendant styles that feature a single diamond, gemstone, fine metal design, or pearl, usually suspended from a chain. A pearl strand is a length of closely strung pearls.

Metal Chains

Chains go with everything. A fine platinum chain in a choker length will add just a touch of shine. Consider giving her an 18-inch, sterling silver or 18k gold chain to add an element of visual interest to her wardrobe.

Necklaces

Necklaces come in an assortment of styles including heavier chains, links, and braids. Some necklaces feature a fixed set of diamonds or gemstones, where others have stones that run their entire length. Pendants feature diamonds, gemstones, or fine metal designs that are suspended from a chain..

Pearl Strands

Pearl strands are an essential element to a woman’s jewelry wardrobe. She can wear one with a dress to create a classy look.

Solitaire Pendants

The simple design of a solitaire pendant allows all the attention to focus on a beautiful diamond, pearl, or gemstone. These timeless pieces can be worn with a dress or with jeans. Our Build Your Own Diamond Pendant feature allows you to select a diamond and setting to create a unique piece of jewelry.

Chain Types

 Choose The Right Length

When selecting a necklace or pendant, consider that the length will determine where it will lie on her chest.

 16 in. Choker length:
Just above collarbones. Emphasizes her neckline.

18 in. Princess length:
Hangs over collarbones. The most common length.

24 in. Opera length:
Over blouse or dress. A dramatic length.

 Buyer’s Tip

At Armak , we measure the length of the necklace from end to end, including the clasp.

Necklaces & Pendants As Gifts

Many women start out with a strand of faux-pearls, so a strand of freshwater pearls makes a very nice gift for a young woman. If you have a special occasion like a birthday or your first wedding anniversary, consider a solitaire pendant featuring a pearl or diamond. For a very special occasion like a five- or ten-year anniversary, you might give Akoya pearls, which are the most beautiful white pearls available. She’ll remember the occasion every time she wears the gift.

If it’s a gift for a fun occasion, like a vacation or a promotion, consider a pendant featuring an 18k gold, platinum, or sterling silver design – these are fashion pieces just for fun.

BRACELETS

A bracelet is one jewelry item she will see all the time, so she can appreciate it often. She also enjoys the feeling of it on her wrist reminding her of you.

Some bracelets are available in different lengths. So before you purchase, be sure to measure one of her other bracelets to be sure she doesn’t need a special length.

Bracelets are usually worn on occasions when she isn’t working with her hands. Even when not working, a bracelet’s proximity to the hands causes it to get bumped and banged, so it must be very durable. Jewelry designers take this into account, so you can be sure the bracelet you choose will last.

 Chain

This is the classic bracelet. You’ll find a variety of chain designs, like the traditional round-link rolo or wheat chain, in a variety of metals like sterling silver, 18k gold, and platinum.

 Pearl

A pearl bracelet is a traditional piece of jewelry. It adds a dressy touch to anything she wears, from jeans to a cocktail dress. Or she can formalize the look with a matching pearl necklaceand earrings.

 Bangle

A bangle bracelet can be worn by itself for a simple look, or can be combined with several other bangles. Bangles draw the eye with metallic shine, and several bangles clinking together make a pleasant sound.

 Bracelets As Gifts

For an important occasion like a graduation or a promotion, give her a pearl bracelet. This bracelet is perfectly suited for one of these formal occasions, and looks great with a dress.

For a birthday, give her a bangle, or several bangles to wear all at once. Bangles are fun for summer to dress up whatever she’s wearing, or she can wear them in winter over a slim-fitting sweater.

WEDDING RING GUIDE

Types Of Men’s And Women’s Wedding Rings

We offer an incredible collection of wedding rings for her and for him. There are a few considerations to make in order to find a wedding ring for her that complements her engagement ring and a wedding band for him that fits his style or best matches her ring set. Use the guidance below to help in making a decision.

Women’s Wedding Rings

It is traditional to wear her wedding ring closest to the heart, and wear the engagement ring on the same finger, over the wedding ring. If you choose this tradition, consider how the rings will fit together.

A Perfect Match

Some rings are designed to fit together, side-by-side. Many women like the symmetry of two matching rings, with diamonds of the same size and shape, or just the same type of metal.

A Unique Combination

She may choose a ring other than the one designed to match her engagement ring. This creates a unique look that is becoming popular. To explore all the options, view all of our plain and diamond wedding rings.

 Women’s Diamond Rings

A prong setting allows more light into the diamond for maximum brilliance. A channel setting protects diamonds from abrasions and offers a smoother look. A three-stone diamond ring symbolizes your past, present, and future together. View our diamond rings.

Women’s Gemstone Rings

Whether fiery, velvety or subtle-in-color, a gemstone ring may be a beautiful complement to your engagement ring. Many Armak  gemstone rings are crafted with birthstones to enhance personal significance. View our wear, care, and sizing page to learn more.

Women’s Platinum And Gold Rings

Consider the classic wedding band in both gold and platinum that will last a lifetime. View our women’s gold wedding rings and platinum wedding rings in a range of widths to complement your style and preference.

 Men’s Wedding Rings

Today, men have more choices than ever for choosing a wedding ring. Some couples choose matching men’s and women’s wedding rings. Choose from the classic wedding band in a broad range of widths to bands with unique detailing, brushed surfaces, or accent diamonds to suit your style and preference.

Men’s Platinum And Gold Rings

Our most popular men’s wedding rings are plain metal bands. For an element of design choose a ring with a subtle design like milgrain.

Armak  realizes that you may not know the ring size for a given finger, and we want to help. We provide a printable ring sizer that can help you determine your ring size. Prior to printing, ensure that page scaling is set to “none” on your print dialog box.

Measuring Your Finger

Your ring should fit your finger comfortably; snug enough so that it will not fall off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle.

Finger size changes depending on the time of day and the weather. For best results measure your finger size:

  1. At the end of the day and when your fingers are warm (Fingers are smaller in the early morning and when cold.)
  2. Measure finger size 3 to 4 times to eliminate an erroneous reading.

Avoid using string or paper to measure ring size as these materials can stretch or twist, yielding an inaccurate measurement.

Ring Sizes

Women’s rings typically range from size 3 to 9. The most commonly purchased women’s ring sizes at Armak  range from size 5 to 7. Size 6 is the most popular ring size.

Men’s rings typically range from size 8 to 14. The most commonly purchased men’s ring sizes at Armak  range from size 8 to 10-½. Size 9 is the most popular ring size.

Tips For Buying The Ring As A Surprise

Ask your significant other’s friends or mother if they know her finger size.

Borrow one of your significant other’s rings (from the correct finger) and use the ring measurements above to determine its size.

Free Resizing

Armak  provides complimentary resizing for Build Your Own Rings®, and Diamond Bands when within the manufacturer’s recommended sizing range, during the first year. METAL EDUCATION

At Armak , our jewelry is crafted with only the finest materials, ensuring you a lifetime of value. Learn more about the variety of metals we offer to find the one that is right for you.

 Platinum

Our most popular metal for engagement rings and wedding bands, platinum’s naturally white sheen will never fade or change color, and accentuates the sparkle and brilliance of a diamond. Platinum will last forever, making it the ultimate symbol for true, enduring, and everlasting love.

Gold

Gold has an extraordinary heritage with unique qualities. As an enduring element found naturally in a distinct yellow color, gold is resistant to rust, tarnish, and corrosion. Although gold is very strong, it’s also the most malleable of all precious metals.

 Silver

The silver jewelry and accessories available at Armak  are made of beautiful sterling silver. For our collection, we have chosen classic designs created by some of the finest craftsmen. This guide will help you learn to identify quality in silver jewelry and accessories.

Palladium

Palladium, one of the rarest metals in the world, is a member of the Platinum Group Metals. These metals are also referred to as “Noble Metals” due to their superior ability to withstand corrosion and oxidation.

  Tungsten Carbide

Unique in appeal and strong by design, tungsten carbide is a forged metal with qualities that will last a lifetime. Tungsten carbide jewelry is created from an alloy of 80% elemental Tungsten and 20% Carbon alloyed with other metals.

Cobalt

Made from a highly durable alloy, cobalt is four times harder than platinum while at the same time, less dense. Because of its natural hardness, cobalt jewelry is extremely scratch, chip and corrosion-resistant. Its lower density and natural malleability allow for strong, dynamic designs with less weight. Cobalt is also hypoallergenic, making it an ideal choice for those with sensitive skin or an active lifestyle.

Tantalum

Tantalum is the newest addition to our contemporary metals, and is highly scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic. Naturally a blue-gray metal, our tantalum is 99% pure and coated with a ceramic glaze that gives the metal a matte black finish. It is important to note that Armak  only carries conflict-free tantalum processed in non-conflict mines and production facilities.

PLATINUM

About Platinum

Platinum is our most popular metal for engagement rings and wedding bands. Platinum’s naturally white sheen will never fade or change color, and accentuates the sparkle and brilliance of a diamond. Platinum will last forever, making it the ultimate symbol for true, enduring, and everlasting love.

Density And Durability

Platinum is durable. Its density makes it the most secure setting for your diamond or precious gemstone. All our platinum rings are crafted with platinum prongs for setting loose diamonds. Because platinum is a naturally white metal, re-plating is unnecessary; it will always hold its beauty.

Platinum’s Patina

Though it is the strongest of jewelry metals, platinum can incur a scratch and develop a patina of wear. The patina is considered by many to be a unique and often desirable attribute. However, the pre-patina shine and reflective luster can easily be revived by merely buffing it with a soft cloth.

Purity Of Platinum

Platinum jewelry is very rare; in fact, 30 times more so than gold. Our platinum is 95% pure (5% iridium, palladium, ruthenium, and other alloys), and its purity makes it naturally hypoallergenic, ideal for those with sensitive skin issues.

How To Maintain Platinum’s Metal Luster

It’s easy. Simply soak platinum in a mild solution of warm soapy water, and then gently scrub it with a soft-bristled brush.

GOLD PURITY, COLOR, PRICING, AND CARE

Gold has an extraordinary heritage with unique qualities. As an enduring element found naturally in a distinct yellow color, gold is resistant to rust, tarnish, and corrosion. Although gold is very strong, it’s also the most malleable of all precious metals.

Purity

Pure gold is too soft for everyday wear, so it is alloyed with a mixture of metals like silver, copper, nickel, and zinc to give it strength and durability. Karatage, denoted by a number followed by “k” indicates purity, or how much of the metal in a piece of jewelry is gold. Karatage is expressed in 24ths, making 24k gold, 100% gold.

We craft our jewelry using both 18k and 14k gold. 18k gold is composed of 75% gold, which is alloyed with other metals to make it strong enough for everyday wear. 14k gold is composed of 58.3% gold and 41.7% of other metals.

Color

The color of gold is determined by two factors:

  • The type of metal alloys included
  • The percentage of each metal alloy

Yellow Gold

Natural gold and color-saturated alloys are what give yellow gold jewelry its rich shine. The alloys most commonly used, are copper with a red hue, and silver featuring a green hue. An expert mixture of copper, silver and pure gold gives this precious metal its signature warmth.

White Gold

A silvery white character is what makes white gold jewelry so appealing. In order to make the gold white, it is combined with metal alloys that are white in nature and plated with an extremely hard element called rhodium. Although strong, rhodium may wear away over time. Replating is a simple process that can be done to restore whiteness to your jewelry.

White Gold With Black Rhodium

Black rhodium is plated to white gold creating a rich black appearance that is extremely hard and strong. As with traditional white rhodium, black rhodium may wear away over time. Replating is a simple process that Armak  offers to restore your jewelry’s black finish.

Rose Gold

The beautiful pink hue of rose gold jewelry is created by using a copper alloy. Again, the overall percentages of metal alloys is the same for rose gold as it is for yellow or white, there is just a different mixture in what alloys are used.

Vermeil

Rich in golden color, many of our fine jewelry pieces are crafted with vermeil. The industry standard definition of vermeil is sterling silver that is plated with 10k gold with a minimum of 2.5 microns in thickness for longwearing durability. At Armak , we strive to offer a higher quality to our customers. Our vermeil pieces feature 14k to 24k gold.

Gold Jewelry

Our 18k and 14k gold jewelry is intricately crafted into beautiful pieces for every occasion or style.

Pricing

Gold jewelry prices are dependent upon the purity of the gold used or karat weight, the market value of gold, and the level of craftsmanship and design of each jewelry piece.

Care

Since gold is a natural element, it is affected by harsh chemicals such as chlorine or other cleaning products. We recommend that you remove your jewelry when using chemicals to reduce daily abrasions and prolong the luster. To clean gold jewelry, use a solution of warm water and detergent-free soap with a soft-bristled brush. When not worn, store your gold pieces in soft cloth bags or the original box to protect them from the elements of daily exposure.

SILVER

The silver jewelry and accessories available at Armak  are made of beautiful sterling silver. For our collection, we have chosen classic designs created by some of the finest silver craftsmen. This guide will help you learn to identify quality in silver jewelry and accessories.

Sterling Silver Jewelry

For jewelry that lasts, all our silver jewelry, like this Sweetheart Locket, is pure sterling silver.

Buyer’s Tip

Sterling silver is the standard for beautiful high-quality silver jewelry. It’s over 90% pure silver, mixed with alloys to add strength and durability. And it won’t wear down, as silver plating can.

Sterling Silver

Pure silver, also called fine silver, is relatively soft, very malleable, and easily damaged so it is commonly combined with other metals to produce a more durable product. The most popular of these alloys is sterling silver, which consists of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent copper. Although any metal can make up the 7.5 percent non-silver portion of sterling, centuries of experimentation have shown copper to be its best companion, improving the metal’s hardness and durability without affecting its beautiful color. The small amount of copper added to sterling has very little effect on the metal’s value. Instead, the price of the silver item is affected by the labor involved in making the item, the skill of the craftsperson, and the intricacy of the design.

Stamps Of Quality

Most high quality silver items are stamped with a “fineness” or “quality” mark. This mark designates the precious metal content of the jewelry, and under federal law, must be accompanied by a maker’s mark or registered trademark.

Silver Alloys

Because pure silver is so soft, it should only be used when malleability is required, such as in handcrafted jewelry featuring weaving and other intricate designs. Sterling silver is most often used for jewelry and household accessories because of its combination of beauty and durability. Acceptable quality marks for sterling silver include:

  • sterling
  • sterling silver
  • ster
  • .925

Care

With proper care, your fine quality silver will last a lifetime. To minimize scratches and other damage, store your silver jewelry either in a cloth pouch or in a separate compartment in your jewelry box. Avoid exposing your silver to household chemicals when cleaning with bleach or ammonia, or when swimming in chlorinated water, as these chemicals can damage silver.

Clean Your Silver Regularly

Care should also be taken to prevent silver tarnish build-up, a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the ambient air. To clean your silver, use polishes formulated specifically to remove tarnish. You can find fine silver polishes, solutions, or cloths appropriate to remove tarnish at most hardware stores or specialty craft stores. Tarnish is most easily removed when it first becomes visible. Although wearing your silver jewelry often is the best way to prevent tarnish from building up, regular cleanings of all your silver items will prevent tarnish and keep your silver bright and sparkling. Look for the fineness mark and the maker’s mark on the underside of the silver item you are considering to ensure the quality.

PALLADIUM

Palladium, one of the rarest metals in the world, is a member of the Platinum Group Metals. These metals are also referred to as “Noble Metals” due to their superior ability to withstand corrosion and oxidation. Palladium, which is listed on the Periodic Table of elements, is lighter in weight than its sister metal, Platinum. A naturally white metal, Palladium is hypoallergenic, will not tarnish and remains white forever. Palladium is 95% pure when used in jewelry, is extremely durable and does not require alloy metals and/or plating for protection, which ensures that it will remain white as long as you own your jewelry.

BUYER’S TIP:

Using a mild solution of soap and warm water and gently scrubbing your jewelry with a soft-bristled brush is usually all that is required to maintain Palladium’s natural beauty and luster.

Armak  offers two colors of tungsten carbide rings, a classic gray and a lustrous white, both of which will hold a permanent polish. Tungsten is exceptionally strong, hypoallergenic, highly scratch-resistant, and tarnish-resistant with a substantial feel in weight. It is ideally suited for someone with an active lifestyle.

Care And Polishing

Care

Since tungsten and carbon are natural elements, this jewelry will be affected by harsh chemicals such as chlorine or other cleaning products. We recommend that you remove your jewelry when using chemicals to reduce daily abrasions and prolong the polish. To clean tungsten carbide jewelry, use a solution of warm water and detergent-free soap with a soft cloth. When not worn, store your tungsten pieces in soft cloth bags or the original box to protect them from the elements of daily exposure.

Polishing

The tungsten alloy used in jewelry is extremely hard, so it does not scratch easily. If scratched, the jewelry piece will need special reconditioning; a complimentary service provided by Armak .

Shop our tungsten carbide jewelry collection.

At Armak , we offer two finishes: a rich blackened color as well as a natural, lustrous white, both of which will hold a lifelong polish. Similar to platinum in color, cobalt does not require rhodium plating and does not tarnish.

Care and Polishing While scratch-resistant, all metal will show a natural wear pattern with time. If scratched, your cobalt jewelry can be reconditioned, a complimentary service provided by Armak .

Shop our cobalt jewelry collection.

TANTALUM

Rare, pure, and strong, tantalum is dense, shatterproof and extremely malleable—characteristics that set it apart from other contemporary metals. In its natural state, tantalum is beautiful gray with a bluish tint, but a special patent pending ceramic glaze is applied to it when used as jewelry to give the metal a matte black look and enhance its scratch-resistance. Tantalum is an inert metal, which means that it does not react to most chemicals and does not dissolve in acid. It is also hypoallergenic and heat-resistant and is widely used in surgical and dental equipment.

Care and Polishing To clean tantalum jewelry, use a solution of warm water and detergent-free soap with a soft cloth. When not worn, store your tantalum pieces in soft cloth bags or the original box to protect them from the elements of daily exposure. Tantalum does not tarnish, and while scratch-resistant, may develop a natural wear pattern over time.

GEMSTONE EDUCATION

This guide defines the five essential characteristics of gemstone quality. By understanding these characteristics, you’ll be able to shop with confidence. Print this helpful information and take it with you shopping so you can make the best choice on a beautiful piece of gemstone jewelry.

Color

The jewelry industry recognizes the highest quality gemstones by purity of their hue, the depth of tone, and the color saturation. The best value is in colors that include “slight” traces of other colors, are not too light or dark, and have a lot of saturated color. Armak  offers some of the highest-quality colored gemstones available. Nearly all gemstones today, including Armak  stones, have been treated to enhance their color. The most common methods of treatment are heating, nearly always seen with aquamarine, citrine, amethyst, sapphire, ruby and tanzanite, bleaching commonly seen with pearls, and irradiation performed on nearly all blue topaz.

 Clarity

Almost all gemstones contain inclusions. Even those most highly prized have at least some inclusions. Flawless gemstones are very rare and very expensive. The best value is found in gems that are lightly to moderately included, like those in Armak  gemstone jewelry. Emeralds are typically treated with colorless oil, wax or resin to minimize surface-reaching inclusions.

Cut

Unlike diamonds, with gemstones there isn’t an “ideal” cut geometrically configured for maximum brilliance. But a high-quality gemstone cut is one that presents the most even color, exposes the fewest inclusions, and displays the majority of the gemstone weight when set in jewelry.

Size

The carat weight of a gemstone is not necessarily an accurate gauge for gemstone size. To help you judge the size of a gemstone, Armak  lists the diameter of the gemstone when viewed from above – since if the gemstone is set in jewelry; this is the only part of the gemstone that is visible.

 Enhancements

Nearly all gemstones on the market, including gemstones offered by Armak , have been treated to enhance their appearance. Gemstones that have not been treated but exhibit desirable color and clarity command extravagant prices. Some enhancement treatments are almost universal, are permanent, and require no special care of the gemstone, such as heat treatment to enhance color. Other treatments are common, and may require more or less special care to avoid damage, such as infusion of colorless oil, wax or resin to improve clarity.

Ring Care

Every gemstone has unique characteristics. Considerations in every day care, how and when you wear your fine jewelry, will dictate longevity. View our wear, care, and sizing page to learn more.

GEMSTONE CUT

Colored gemstones are generally cut to maximize the beauty of their color. To recognize quality in the cut of a gemstone, there are several points to consider.

What To Look For

A good cut showcases the gemstone’s color, diminishes its inclusions, and exhibits good overall symmetry and proportion. Because gemstone color can vary, there are no hard geometrical standards when it comes to maximizing brilliance or color. Gemstones, especially rarer ones, are sometimes cut for size without regard for their color. For example, when corundum varieties such as sapphire and ruby are cut for maximum weight rather than beauty, they may display banded colors or streaks. Armak  sells only the finest quality, hand-selected colored gemstones.

 Buyer’s Tip

In a gemstone with more saturated color, the best cut may be more shallow than average, permitting more light to penetrate the gemstone, while in a less saturated gem, the color may benefit from a deeper cut.

Gemstone Cut

Look at the gemstone in the setting and ensure that all the facets are symmetrical. An asymmetrically-cut crown indicates a gemstone of low-quality. In all cases, a well-cut gemstone is symmetrical and reflects light evenly across the surface, and the polish is smooth, without any nicks or scratches. These are the characteristics that Armak  jewelers look for when selecting our gemstone jewelry.

Buyer’s Tip

Like diamonds, fine quality color gems usually have a table, crown, girdle, pavilion, and culet. Iridescent opals are one exception, and most often have a rounded cabochon cut.

GEMSTONE COLOR

The beautiful color of a gemstone is its most defining characteristic, and many jewelers consider it to be the most important evaluation criterion. When deciding upon gemstone color, examine hue, tone, and saturation.

The most valuable gemstones are those that exhibit a pure color and only “slight” hues of other colors in addition to their primary color, as all Armak  gemstones do. For example, Armak  sapphires range in hue from “slightly purplish-blue” to “slightly greenish-blue,” pink sapphires always range from “pink” to “slightly purplish-pink,” and rubies range from “slightly orangish-red” to “slightly purplish-red”. With the exception of opals, variation in a gemstone’s hue will be called out in the gemstone details on the product detail page.

Tone

Tone represents the depth of color, ranging from colorless to black. Gemstone tone is described as “light,” “medium-light,” “medium,” “medium-dark,” and “dark.” Armak  offers gemstones with the most sought-after tones that fall within the medium-light to medium-dark range. For all of our gemstone jewelry, you’ll find any tone variations are called out in the gemstone details.

Saturation

Saturation, or color purity, refers to the degree to which the gem is free from brown or gray hues. The most desirable gemstones, which show little gray or brown, are often described as having “vivid” or “strong” color saturation. Generally, the levels of color saturation will not be called out in the product details because the gemstones in our jewelry are hand-selected for their vivid colors.

GEMSTONE CLARITY

Identifying Marks

Because gemstones form under unique circumstances, each individual gemstone is comprised of a combination of trace minerals, which create a unique set of identifying marks or inclusions. Inclusions will not necessarily detract from the beauty or desirability of a colored gemstone.

What To Look For

When considering a colored gemstone’s clarity, you should measure your expectations against the standard for that variety of gemstone. Some varieties of colored gemstones, such as aquamarine, blue topaz, and citrine, have naturally fewer inclusions while other gemstones, such as emerald and ruby, tend to have a higher rate of acceptable inclusions.

Clarity is an important factor in comparing quality colored gemstones. Even opaque opals can have milky inclusions that will affect their iridescence and color play. In general, the best values are available in gemstones that are moderately included. Exceptional gemstones with few or no inclusions are available, but they can command extravagant prices.

GEMSTONE SIZE

Different Densities

The carat weight of a gemstone does not necessarily allow you to accurately envision the size of the gemstone. Different gemstones have different densities (mass per unit volume), so two gems that appear to be the same size may actually have very different weights. For example, a ruby is more dense than a diamond, so a 1-carat ruby will look smaller than a 1-carat diamond.

Buyer’s Tip

Always request the dimensions of a gemstone to ensure that the majority of the gemstone weight will be visible when set in the setting.

To help you envision the gemstone’s actual appearance, we at Armak  provide the diameter dimensions (for round) or length and width (for other shapes) of a given gemstone. You can even click the zoom button to see a closer look at any piece of gemstone jewelry.

GEMSTONE ENHANCEMENTS

Armak ‘s Colored Gemstone Enhancement Policy

Armak  offers consumers only the highest quality, authentic gemstones. Our colored gemstones undergo rigorous internal inspections by our trained gemologists to ensure they meet our stringent quality standards.

Due to their rarity and unique visual properties, nearly all colored gemstones sold at fine jewelers, including Armak , are enhanced using various techniques. Many of these techniques have been used for centuries. Colored gemstones that have not been enhanced are very rare and command extravagant prices.

Our white and fancy-color diamonds are not enhanced in any way, other than normal cutting and polishing. Black diamond fashion jewelry contains natural diamonds that have been treated to create the unique black color.

Colored Gemstone Enhancement Processes

There are many methods of enhancing colored gemstones. We describe the most common enhancements below. For more information on colored gemstone enhancements, see the American Gem Trade Association’s Gemstone Information Manual.

Heat Treatment

The application of heat to enhance the color and/or clarity of gemstones has been a common practice around the globe for centuries. It is part of the standard polishing and finishing process for many colored gemstones. As such, it is accepted by the jewelry industry and the American Gem Trade Association. The enhanced color and/or clarity of heat-treated gemstones is permanent.

Infusion

The filling of a gem material with an oil, wax, glass, resin or other material, colored or colorless, to improve appearance. This process began centuries ago by gemstone merchants who found that immersing emeralds in oil or waxes made them look clearer to the unaided eye. This practice continues today with many colored gemstones.

Coating

The use of wax, resin or oil applied to the exterior of a porous colored gemstone to protect the natural substance, and to improve sturdiness and appearance.

Bleaching

The application of chemicals or other elements to lighten or enhance color consistency.

Dyeing

The act of adding coloring agents so that they permeate a colored gemstone to enhance or alter color.

Irradiation

The alteration of a gemstone’s color through the use of radiation. This is often followed by a heating process. The enhanced color of irradiated gemstones is permanent.

New And Future Technologies

Techniques for enhancing colored gemstones, either detectable or otherwise, are continually being developed. These may be difficult, or in rare cases, impossible to detect, even for the most sophisticated laboratory. Armak  will continue to work with industry groups and gemological experts who are committed to the identification and disclosure of new and future techniques in order to maintain our stringent quality standards.

Basic Gemstone Care

While gemstones are durable, they require varying levels of care. For example, some gemstones are especially vulnerable to household chemicals and temperature changes. Cleaning gemstones presents special challenges. While many gemstones should be cared for by following our basic care guidelines below, please refer to our Gemstone and Pearl Care and Enhancement Overview to understand the care requirements for your specific stone. If you still have questions, please contact Armak  customer service.

Cleaning

After removing your gemstone jewelry, clean it by following the directions on a non-abrasive jewelry cleaner. Make sure that the jewelry cleaner specifies that it is safe to use with your gemstone. Use a soft cloth to remove any remaining dirt or other residue.

Storing

Store your gemstone jewelry in a lined case or a soft cloth, so the gems do not touch each other or parts of other jewelry. Gemstones are harder than gold, silver, or platinum and can scratch the surfaces of your other fine jewelry if they are not kept separate.

Wear

While it’s true that gemstones such as ruby and sapphire are second only to diamond on the hardness scale, it is not a measurement of their indestructibility. It means that these gemstones are able to resist scratching almost as well as a diamond. Abrasive surfaces, harsh chemicals, and sharp blows can damage even the hardest gem. Your gemstone jewelry should be the last thing you put on when getting dressed and the first thing you take off at the end of the night. Store your gemstones carefully and they will be enjoyed for generations.

PEARL EDUCATION

Use this guide to find the pearl that is right for you by educating yourself on the quality and value of the cultured pearls that Armak  offers.

What Is A Cultured Pearl?

Natural pearls are so rare to find in nature that most pearls sold today are cultured. To create a cultured pearl, a tiny bead is implanted into the oyster and gradually over time the oyster coats the bead in many layers of natural minerals and proteins. These layers are referred to as nacre (Nay-Ker.) It is the nacre that gives pearls their beautiful luster and color.

Choosing The Right Pearl

At Armak  we offer a variety of Freshwater, South Sea, and Tahitian cultured pearls. In addition, we offer two collections of Akoya cultured pearls. Our pearl jewelry is available in a variety of different styles including studs, fashion earrings, strands, necklaces, pendants and bracelets. In addition, we offer our pearls in varying price ranges so that you can find the perfect pearl for your style and budget.

 Quality

While industry wide there is no standardized grading for pearls, Armak  ensures that each pearl meets our high quality standards. At Armak  you will find education related to each pearl type we offer and encourage you to learn more about the differing qualities in each.

Color

The general color of a pearl is also called the body color. Typical pearl colors are white, cream, yellow, pink, silver, or black. A pearl can also have a hint of secondary color, or overtone, which is seen when light reflects off the pearl surface. For example, a pearl strand may appear white, but when examined more closely, a pink overtonemay become apparent.

 Luster

Pearls produce an intense, deep shine called luster. This effect is created when light reflects off the many layers of tiny calcium carbonate crystals that compose the pearl. This substance is called nacre. When selecting a pearl, consider that the larger the pearl, the more nacre it has, so it will also exhibit even more luster. Compare a 5mm Freshwater cultured pearl with a 10mm South Sea cultured pearl and the difference in the amount of nacre is obvious. The difference in luster is as clearly visible as the difference in the pearl sizes.

Shape

At Armak , we offer the highest quality, rarest pearl shape – round. Shapes that are not spherical or even symmetrical are considered lower quality. Akoya, Tahitian, and South Sea pearls found in jewelry have a tendency to be the roundest, while Freshwater pearls can be oval or slightly off-round.

 Surface Markings

As a mollusk creates a pearl, the layers of nacre do not always adhere smoothly. Sometimes spots and bubbles can appear in the layering process. Pearls with the smoothest surfaces are the highest-quality, most sought-after pearls. At Armak , to offer you a range of prices, we offer pearls with a range of surface qualities.

Size

The size of the pearl greatly depends on the type of pearl. Freshwater pearls range in size from about 3.0-7.0mm, Akoya pearls range from about 6.0-8.5mm, and South Sea and Tahitian pearls can reach sizes as large as 13mm.

 Care

When cared for properly, pearls can last a lifetime. The best way to care for pearls is to wear them often as the body’s natural oils keep pearls lustrous. However, it’s important to keep them away from household chemicals including perfume, makeup and hairspray. Chemicals found in these common products can dull the luster of your pearls. It is recommended that you put your pearls on last when getting ready and make them the first thing you take off when you come home. Before putting your pearls away, wipe them with a soft cloth and store them separate from other jewelry to avoid scratching their tender surfaces.

AKOYA PEARLS

If you’re looking for the classic set of pearls, look to Akoya cultured pearls. The Akoya is the most popular pearl, commonly seen in pearl strands and in earrings.

At Armak  we offer two collections of Akoya cultured pearls, Premier and Classic. In addition, we also offer Golden Akoya cultured pearls.

While industry wide there is no standardized grading for Akoya pearls, Armak  ensures that each pearl meets our high quality standards.

 Pearl Jewelry

Akoya pearls are the specialty of Japanese pearl farms. The first pearls to be cultured early in the 1920s, their white color and rosé overtone complement a fair complexion. Because Akoya pearls are a high-quality pearl, you’ll find them set with gold posts and clasps, and you’ll find they are well matched for size, shape, and color. You’ll also find few blemishes and a deep, beautiful luster.

You may notice that the Akoya looks very similar to the Freshwater pearl. When compared side-by-side, the difference is clear. Akoya pearls are on average larger, smoother, rounder, and more lustrous than Freshwater pearls. If you’re looking for a remarkable gift, choose a gift of Akoya cultured pearl jewelry.

Our beautiful Akoya pearls are available as stud earrings, fashion earrings, strands, necklaces, pendants, and bracelets.

Armak  Classic Golden Cultured Pearls

FRESHWATER PEARLS

Our round Freshwater cultured pearls make an excellent, affordable gift of good quality pearls.

As opposed to rice-shaped Freshwater pearls, these pearls are mostly round, and look very similar to Akoya pearls when worn, but are available for a much lower price.

Most Freshwater pearls come from China, and are the product of an elaborate process in which a single resilient mussel can be harvested many times, yielding several pearls at a time. To provide these pearls at an exceptional value, we offer them with good levels of quality, and set with 14k gold posts and clasps.

The Freshwater pearl looks remarkably similar to the Akoya pearl, but Freshwater pearls are available for almost 1/5 the price of Akoya pearls. The only tradeoff is that Freshwater pearls are generally smaller, less symmetrical, and not as well matched when strung on a strand. But if you’re looking for pearls at an outstanding value, Freshwater pearls are the perfect gift.

Colored Freshwater Cultured Pearls

Freshwater cultured pearls can be created in a spectrum of colors. Many popular Colors – white, pink, orange, and other pastels – can be achieved through natural means, including the pearl mollusk’s genetics, what they eat, and the amount and type of trace metals in the cultivating environment.

It is a widely-accepted practice to treat or irradiate Freshwater pearls in order to achieve a particular or unusual color, and equally common to treat Freshwater pearls to create a more evenly-colored strand. Pearl colors should always be chosen to complement the wearer’s complexion and wardrobe preferences.

From a value standpoint, when selecting colored pearls it is important to understand if the color is natural or the result of some post-harvesting treatment. For example, Tahitian pearls, cultivated in black lipped oysters, are the only naturally occurring charcoal to black pearls. It should be made clear to you that other pearls exhibiting these colors have been treated, and that fact reflected in a lower cost.

SOUTH SEA PEARLS

South Sea cultured pearls are exceptional quality pearls with a whitish, almost silver color.

Much larger than the average pearl, the smoothness and roundness of these pearls are exceptional. These are the most rare and extraordinary pearls you’ll find in jewelry.

South Sea pearls come from the white-lipped variety of the pinctada maxima oyster. This oyster is much larger than the oysters that produce Akoya and Freshwater pearls, so the pearl that it produces is much larger as well. Because of the rarity and sensitivity of this type of oyster, cultivation of these pearls is much more difficult, making them more expensive.

Our beautiful South Sea cultured pearls are available as stud earrings, strands, pendants, and bracelets.

TAHITIAN PEARLS

Tahitian Cultured Pearl
Pendant and Earings

Tahitian cultured pearls offer a dramatic touch. The natural black color of these pearls comes from the color of the oyster’s black lips.

These pearls are traditionally called “black,” but their color can range from a metallic silver, to the color of graphite. And within this range of colors they can have bluish, purplish, or greenish overtones.

Tahitian cultured pearls are cultivated from the black-lipped variety of thepinctada maxima oyster which reaches a foot or more in diameter, and produces very large pearls. This oyster is very sensitive to the pearl culturing process, which makes the pearls very costly to produce. A gift of Tahitian cultured pearls makes an extraordinary, unique gift.

Birthstone Jewelry

BIRTHSTONE JEWELRY

Gemstones have been imbued with spiritual meaning for eons, dating back to the breastplate of Aaron that contained 12 gemstones representing the signs of the zodiac and the tribes of Israel. The modern birthstone list was established by the National Association of Jewelers in 1912, with a few updates over the years.

OCTOBER: OPAL

The dramatic opal stands out for the fiery range of colors contained within a single stone, and is typically cut into rounded cabochons to enhance its exceptional light play. The Greeks believed opals provided the power of prophecy and the stone is a celebrated symbol of loyalty, faith and hope. Look for stones with bright spots of well-distributed flashes of color.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

These terms and conditions apply to the Armak  Web site located at www.thearmak.com .com, and all associated Web sites linked to www.thearmak.com .com by Armak , its subsidiaries and affiliates, including Armak ‘s sites around the world (collectively ‘the Site’). Please read these terms and conditions (the ‘Terms and Conditions’) carefully. BY USING THE SITE, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of, and any purchase from, the Armak  Site, and constitute an agreement between you and Armak . Armak  reserves the right to change or modify any of these Terms and Conditions or any policy or guideline of the Site at any time, and in its sole discretion. Any change or modification will be effective immediately upon posting of the revisions on the Site. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of its changes or modifications will constitute your acceptance of such changes or modifications. Therefore, you should frequently review these Terms and Conditions and any other applicable policies from time-to-time to understand the terms and conditions that apply to your use of the Site. If you do not agree to the amended terms, you must stop using the Site.

Product Availability And Pricing

If you’re interested in a piece of jewelry that is currently on back order, call us and we can tell you when the item will be back in stock. Sometimes with the volume of orders we receive, an item may go out of stock before we are able to post a notification on the Site. If this happens, we will contact you directly to discuss possible options.

Data, including prices, may be inaccurately displayed on our Site due to system or typographical errors. While we make every attempt to avoid these errors, they may occur. We reserve the right to correct any and all errors when they do occur, and we do not honor inaccurate or erroneous prices. If a product’s listed price is lower than its actual price, we will, at our discretion, either contact you for instructions before shipping the product or cancel the order and notify you of such cancellation. If the order has been shipped, you agree to either return the product or pay the difference between the actual and charged prices. Our prices are also subject to change without notice. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of our Diamond and Jewelry Consultants at[email protected] .com or 1-877-Armak-01 (276-2501).

We do not negotiate prices on our products and all our prices are final.

Diamond Certificates

When you order a loose diamond, we ship it to you with the accompanying diamond grading report (also called a diamond certificate). These grading reports are detailed documents created by diamond grading experts at one of two highly-respected diamond laboratories – making it very expensive to replace a diamond grading report. Because of this, we require each diamond grading report to be included with each returned diamond. If you do not include the diamond grading report with your return, you will be charged a replacement fee of $250.

Comparison Purchasing

To keep our prices low, we do not allow comparison purchasing. Comparison purchasing is the act of buying several items with the intent of keeping the one you like best and returning the remainder. This causes undue restocking and inventory overhead and can be very costly. To confirm the quality of a jewelry item, please contact one of our Diamond and Jewelry Consultants at [email protected] .com or 1-877-Armak-01 (276-2501), and we would be happy to help you make your choice.

Information On Our Site

At Armak , we make every attempt to ensure that our online catalog is as accurate and complete as possible. In order to give you the opportunity to view our products in great detail, some products may appear larger or smaller than their actual size in our photographs; and since every computer monitor is set differently, color and size may vary slightly.

Our objective is to provide you with as much information and detail about your prospective purchase as possible so that you can see the beauty and shape of a particular item. In compliance with industry standards and FTC regulations, Armak  states that carat total weight in all purchases may vary 0.05 carats from stated weight.

On the Site, we provide the measurement of our products based on our manufacturing specifications. Slight tolerances may be accounted for based on finishing during the manufacturing. Width tolerance on machine made wedding bands of 0.20mm is allowed. Cast manufactured rings can vary slightly more.

For gemstone and pearl measurements, a tolerance of 0.25mm is allowed.

For diamond jewelry set with multiple diamonds, we provide the minimum total carat weight for the piece. Color and clarity grades are expressed as either a minimum or an average depending on the number of diamonds. If stated as a minimum, all diamonds within the piece are at or above the stated quality. If expressed as an average, collectively the quality is equal to or exceeds the grade stated.

Policy On Ethical Sourcing

At Armak , we only purchase diamonds through the largest and most respected suppliers who, like us, proudly adhere to and enforce the standards established by the Kimberley Process, an international system that polices the trade of diamonds to ensure they are from sources free of conflict. Read more about Armak ‘s policy on ethical sourcing and the steps we take to ensure our diamonds are from conflict free sources.

ETHICAL SOURCING

The Armak  Conflict-Free Diamond Policy

Armak , along with the global diamond industry, has a zero-tolerance policy toward conflict diamonds. Through measures such as the Kimberley Process, which tracks diamonds from mine to market, the industry in partnership with the United Nations, governments, and non-governmental organizations, polices diamond exports to prevent the trade of illegal diamonds. At Armak , we only purchase diamonds through the largest and most respected suppliers who, like us, proudly adhere to and enforce the standards established by the Kimberley Process. All Armak  diamonds are warranted to be conflict free. If one of our suppliers was ever found to be in violation of that process, we would immediately sever that relationship. We will continue to support and promote any process that works to uphold legitimacy in the diamond trade. Diamonds are mined throughout the world, including major mines in Australia, Africa, Russia and Canada. Diamonds are a major source of good in many African nations, employing and providing healthcare to thousands. For more information on this issue, please visit DiamondFacts.org.

About The Kimberley Process

Armak  supports the Kimberley process, which is an International process to track and certify diamonds. In April 2003, congress and President Bush passed a law adopting the Kimberley Process that requires all US diamond retailers to buy diamonds from manufacturers who have documentation warranting that the merchandise was obtained through legitimate channels. Today, the US Customs Service actively enforces the Kimberley Process requirements as diamonds enter American ports.

Concerning Zimbabwe Diamonds

Armak  is committed to ensuring that the highest ethical standards are observed when sourcing our diamonds and jewelry. Because of the reported human rights abuses in Zimbabwe’s Marange diamond district, Armak  will not purchase or offer diamonds from that area. As a responsible member of the diamond and jewelry industry, we are working with our suppliers to ensure our consumers receive only the finest goods procured from ethical sources.

The Armak  Position On Responsible Mining

Across our business, Armak  observes the highest ethical standards. We insist our business partners do the same. This extends to our gold sourcing. The issue of responsible mining is an important one and deserves our attention. As a signatory of The Golden Rules, and as a first step, we will:

  • Work to ensure that our gold and metals come from suppliers that meet the highest human rights, social, and environmental criteria.
  • Engage suppliers to influence the sourcing of gold products.
  • Research mining, refinement, and manufacturing practices of gold that moves through the supply chain.
  • Give preference to suppliers that source gold from mines that observe high standards of environmental stewardship.
  • In concert with our suppliers, commit to increased gold sourcing from recycled and secondary sources.
  • Measure and establish benchmarks with a goal of continuous improvement.

Armak  views its policy on responsible mining as an evolving standard. It commits to continuously review our position with the goal of expanding it over time to have the broadest possible impact.

Payment Methods

For your convenience, we offer the following payment methods:

  • Credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, American Express, Discover or JCB card.
  • Bank wire: Arrange payment through your bank and receive a 1.5% discount. Bank wire payments are accepted on orders of $750 or more.
  • Other payment methods: Armak  Credit CardPayPal or MasterPass™.

Policy On Debit Cards

A debit card is treated differently than a credit card by your bank. A debit card is much like a credit card in that it may display a credit card company logo, like Visa or MasterCard, but a charge to your debit card uses funds directly from your bank account. The biggest difference is that your bank may institute a daily charge limit on your debit card. If the price of your order exceeds a daily limit set on your debit card we will notify you, as this will prohibit us from processing your order.

As an alternative, you can:

  • Continue your order via wire transfer and receive a 1.5% discount. A wire transfer is a simple process of contacting your bank to have funds moved from your bank to ours and is available for orders of $750 or more. It works on the same principle as your debit card, but requires some direct communication with your bank to allow for a larger transaction. We’ll send you the easy instructions. It may require a few days for your bank to transfer your funds.
  • Continue your order using a credit card. If you order before noon, your order will begin processing today.
  • Contact your bank and request a one-time waiver of the daily charge limit.

Gift Certificate Policies

Our Armak  gift certificates may only be purchased and redeemed in US dollars. Gift certificates are sent immediately to the recipient through email. Once the recipient receives the gift certificate, it can be used immediately on Armak .com.

For security purposes, when you redeem your gift certificate online, we require that you use a credit card. This helps us ensure your identity, and protects against fraudulent use of your gift certificate. Your credit card will not be charged unless your order total exceeds the amount of your gift certificate. If you do not wish to use a credit card to redeem your gift certificate, call customer service at 1-877-Armak-01 (276-2501).

Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash, cannot be returned for a cash refund, and are not transferable. Any unused portion will remain available for future purchases under the same Gift Certificate Number. Armak  is not responsible for lost or stolen gift certificates. At any time, you can view your gift certificate balance.

Armak  gift certificates are redeemable only at www.thearmak.com .com. Certificate cash value is, 1/10 of one cent. Gift certificates and unused portions expire on the date listed on your printed gift certificate, or the date listed in your gift certificate e-mail (does not apply to California or where prohibited by law).

We fully insure each order all the way to you. That means that when your order is in transit to you, shipment is always risk-free. For added security, it is our policy that a signature is required for all Armak  orders over $200, regardless of any signature waivers you may have with your carrier.

Alternate Shipping Addresses

If you prefer, we can ship your order to an address other than your billing address. As a security precaution, we require that your alternate shipping address be on file with your credit card company. This step helps protect you from fraudulent charges to your credit card.
